The New Sauvage by Dior, a controversial new ad to say the least

In 2015, the house of Dior presented us with a perfume named Sauvage, and featuring actor Johnny Depp in the heart of the great American spaces. Building on its success, this essence has been metamorphosed several times, giving birth, in 2019, to a new edition called Sauvage Le Parfum . However, like any self-respecting olfactory outlet, the latter is already accompanied by advertising. If the context remains more or less the same as that of its predecessors, this time, the pill is struggling to pass among the defenders of the Amerindian community. Explanations …

The New Sauvage, an advertisement in the heart of an Amerindian tribe

To produce its new advertising spot, the Dior house called on one of the most famous French directors of the moment: Jean-Baptiste Mondino. Accustomed to working with the greatest, he staged here Johnny Depp, Dior muse since 2015, in the heart of the Canyonlands desert, in Utah. Dior’s ambition? Offer an “authentic journey to the depths of the Amerindian soul, in a sacred, secular and founding territory”.

For that, the advertisement The New Sauvage puts in scene Johnny Depp in the role of a solitary cowboy, offering himself some notes of guitar and interpreting the title “Rumble” of Link Wray in the heart of the great outdoors. In this advertisement, a man in traditional dress from the Rosebud Sioux Indian tribe also performs a sacred dance. A young woman, dressed in animal skin, observes the scene from a bench of reeds.

    The controversy wiped by Dior
